Nora as happy as a little lark, playing with Sharon's pits. She had asked me the day before to get a picture of her in her mommy's pits as she stuck her head in them. I dont know what I did with that pic unfortunately.

I have been wanting to get all of this down in writing so as not to forget it all, partially because it will become awesome blackmail material somebody, and also because it is something that is a big part of Nora’s young life.
Every child has his or her “security blanket”. Sometimes it might be a certain blanket, toy or something else that gives them comfort. For Nora her security objects are a little different. They are Sharon’s armpits and my unshaven face. Yes, I said Sharon’s armpits, affectionately known to …

    boston-bombing-victims

As the Boston Marathon tragedy unfolded I was glued to the TV and online media outlets trying to find out more information. My desire to know what was going on was so great, and I imagine from the frenzy on social media, I was not the only one. I scoured through the new information that was continually being posted. And in that material I came across a photograph of the aftermath, right about where the bomb went off.
What emotionally struck me at first was the amount of, for a lack …

Recently I got commissioned to photograph an event for the Florida Banker’s Association at the Pensacola Naval Museum. I always love going to the Naval Museum so this was a treat to combine it with getting paid. But going in, I had no idea what a treat it would be!
The event started at the National Flight Academy building, built to resemble an aircraft carrier, with cocktails and mingling with about 50 bankers from all around Florida. Here is a brief rundown from the NFA website about what it is about.
    “Aboard …

    Lost Sole Tom Thiel

I just got news from a grade-school classmate of mine, that one of our fellow classmates had lost his life the night before in a fire. I have written on several occasions about the strong bonds that were created during my grade school years among classmates, so news like this hits home pretty hard for me.
Not only did I go to grade school with him, but also graduated the same class in high school from the Catholic School, Moeller of Cincinnati. I probably have not seen Tom since our 10-year …

    ergo photo with nora

I can remember countless times through the years hearing the words from parents, “they grow up so fast.” And never did I fully understand them until now. Luckily she is still little by kid standards, but I realize, not for long.
I havent had the time to write in this blog lately. Ive been too busy trying to support the family, and when I do have time to write, I have been using that time to polish my One Shoe Diaries Trilogy which is set to be published in the very …

After our experience of getting our butts kicked by the Magic Kingdom, we made it a point to plan ahead a bit. We did have a day in between parks and originally we were going to use it as a day off so to speak. However we were in Orlando, and we did have tickets to Disney Quest in Downtown Disney, so after breakfast we took off for more Disney fun!
Disney quest is pretty much a virtual type of amusement setup. There were multiple levels within the building and …

This project has taken me on many journeys. On one such journey I was traveling from New Orleans back to Pensacola when I happened upon a man walking a remote stretch of highway in Mississippi, pushing a large inflatable globe with his dog following alongside. Needless to say this caught my attention. Immediately I thought how cool it would be to get a picture of him next to a Lost Sole. And I had just saw one sitting in the berm, just a few miles back. But I was late …

It was a warm and clear night nearing midnight. Stars littered the skies and an almost full moon illuminated the landscape. I was driving the Ark as it effortlessly glided down the smooth and straight highway of I-10 just outside of Tallahassee. Traffic was almost non-existent. We had the road to ourselves. An audio book from the Jesse Stone series written by my favorite author, Robert B. Parker, was playing on my phone as it glowed on the dashboard. In my mirror I could see Sharon and Nora snuggled together …

I found this shoe the day Candy passed away. It is not a particularly pretty shoe, but it has a lot of artistic character to it, and probably has a pretty good story to tell if it could as it looks well-traveled. And I bet Candy would find it very interesting

I only lived in Charleston, West Virginia for around 3 years, but I managed to make strong friendships there that will most likely last a lifetime. Even though I don’t see or talk to them as much as I wish I could I still feel a strong bond with them. We all worked at a small educational company named Cambridge Educational. The atmosphere seemed to be one that fostered relationships between the coworkers. Or maybe it was that it was a special group of people that made up the Cambridge …

    noahs dollar

Noah would have been 4 years old on July 31st, 2012. It is a day that is, to put it mildly, bittersweet. While we like to celebrate the day he came out into the world, it is also the day we lost him.
On this day we have a ritual we have started from the time we lost him, and that was to place a dollar bill with his name on it at McGuire’s Irish Restaurant and Bar. In previous years, everytime we did it we heard the “Noah’s Ark” song …
