Before we even moved into our present location we met the neighbor across the street, Chip. Although I guess he is not technically a neighbor as he owns the sign business but does not actually live on the premises. Or should I say he doesn’t sleep there as he is there more than he is at home. His wife Karyn also toils with him at their shop.

Well we all hit it off pretty easily and have become pretty good friends. When Sharon’s bike was stolen he was over at our house within hours with a new bike for Sharon to ride. It was quite a gesture and one that will always be remembered. Chip and Karyn have also become quite fond of Nora and she loves going over to the shop as Chip has collected thousands of toys and memorabilia which he amasses on shelves, tables and even in the rafters. It is sensory overload almost.

Just today I walked out to the porch to strap Nora into the bike seat for a ride when she started saying “ducky, ducky, ducky.” We I looked I noticed there was yellow stuffed duck toy in the seat. It was just the other day Chip asked what her favorite things were and we told her she has a things for ducks :)

They also had a sweet dog that patrolled the property for 8 years I believe. Her name was Millie. She was a sweet old pit bull terrier. It was only a few months after we moved in that she passed away while they slept. Chip was left with an empty void. He loved that dog and she was his companion who was always there for him. After losing our bulldog some years back and being as attached to our dogs as we are, we knew what he was feeling.

So as an honor to Millie I want to dedicate Lost Sole #385 in her name. This lost sole was found in Chip’s shop actually. It is a bronzed shoe that he found at the place when he moved in. So even though it is a found shoe and has a home, I still think it is a Lost Sole as the foot it belonged to is no longer connected to it. I realize this one might be a stretch. but I am willing to bend the rules a bit to preserve the memory of Millie for him in my collection.
