Let me preface this article by saying that we are a little embarrassed the way they overdramatized our life. We really only experienced 1 tragedy, and that was losing Noah. The Hurricane put us on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, the oil spill was a road bump and we got through it much better than a lot of others. After seeing what happened in Japan with the earthquake and tsunami, I can hardly call some of what we have went through tragedies. They did do a nice job of writing the article …Read the full entry »
This bittersweet year was full of memorable events for Sharon and I. Full of soaring ups and tumbling downs. When looking back it seems like the year went so fast, but yet it is amazing how much happened in the span of a year.
It started with Nora’s first New Year which just became a series of firsts for us and Nora. Nora’s first words, her first steps, her first Birthday, our first trip to Disney as a family and so on. Experiencing life as a dad is so much more …
We arrived at Deal Island with a sound asleep Nora, after an hour straight of screaming. She just wanted out of the VAN! She endured 20 hours over 3 days stuck in the car seat and just could not handle another minute. So I pulled over and just by pure luck, was an upscale gated subdivision with the gate wide open. We drove in and stopped along the fountains at the entrance. I got out with Nora and immediately she stopped crying. She loves fountains and moving water. After holding …Read the full entry »
Tucked away in the Blackwater River State Forest, north of the beaches and far from the hustle and bustle of the tourists, is a magical place called Adventures Unlimited situated on the banks of Coldwater Creek. It is an outdoor enthusiast’s heaven. You can kayak clear, spring-fed creeks, mountain bike the local Black Bear Lake trail, or hike the Juniper Creek trail. And for those that like the rush of adrenaline there is a zip line canopy tour with 14 platforms that allow you to shoot across tree tops and rivers.Read the full entry »
In a time when everyone seems focused on the technical aspect of photography and not the artistic aspect I decided to do something unique, I wanted to expose that the subject of the photo is what is most important, I wanted to go beyond megapixels and optical zooms. I want the timeless saying that a picture is worth a thousand words to ring true again. The uniqueness of the One Shoe Diaries comes from the fact the images are not something I cannot accumulate over night. Which both frustrates me …Read the full entry »

A solitary flip-flop sits in the white sand of Pensacola, Florida, with chunky bits of goo spilled on top and to the side like chocolate sauce. The large amount of oil that washed on shore June 23 had just marred the coastline. Randy Hamilton spots the sandal, captures a photo and files it in his archives as specimen 359. Just another lost shoe for his collection of forgotten footwear photos, but this one is different. It speaks to yet another crisis in his land and in his life.
Hamilton still remembers …

A souvenir; a reminder of past events.
Momentos. When I sit back and look around my office I am surrounded by them. In fact I seem to be surrounded by them wherever I go. They are little things that trigger a memory for me of a person, place or time, often all three. I seem to have been collecting them my entire life, some without even realizing it. Some are tangible such as the Walt Disney Polynesian Village glass I got while on Senior Spring Break in …
Just as the other Volumes, Volume 3 follows Sharon and Randy’s journey through life’s ups and downs. It begins with two people surviving every parent’s nightmare, to healing as a couple, eventually experiencing every parent’s greatest moment. Along the way it dives further into the almost other-worldly connection between the lost soles and actual lost souls.
I am very proud of this volume. It has so many levels to it and echoes back to experiences from earlier volumes that once seemed insignificant, but now revealed as very important events that shaped …
