Hi, an interesting story which mirrors my own efforts with our Roadtrek 210. We call it the 'nearly van' because everything nearly works. We can nearly get the electric windows up, the cupboard doors nearly close, the fridge nearly works.....get the picture?

Our biggest problem comes down to finding spare parts. We live on the Isle of Man which is in the middle of the Irish Sea. Our country is 35miles long and 12 miles across with a population of 75,000 people. The UK is our nearest neighbour with a population of around 60,000,000 people and yet we have the only Roadtrek in Great Britain it seems.

Despite googling we have yet to meet or contact anyone with a vehicle even remotely like ours, which, as I've said is problematic so I look forward to reading of your continued adventures and hope I can take inspiration from your efforts.

Kind regards,

Thanks for you kind comment on my site.

I always enjoy reading about WHY people go down one path or another and I can say the "drivability" seems to be a pretty common factor. I agree with you about the diesel part. That is the engine of the future - until we run out! If you use the vegetable oil as fuel I hear you'll be constantly craving french fries :-)

Cheers,
Marlan

Well, our first goal we wanted to do was go green and cheaper, and a great way to do that was to go diesel. So that is why we started with trying to find a Safari Trek diesel and envisioned to convert it to running on vegetable oil. Plus they were inexpensive and were smaller than most class A's so we could park it in our driveway and not pay storage. But after getting in one it was not much different to drive than the Cruisemaster, which Sharon was not willing to do so I had to always drive which was another reason we thought the smaller Trek was going to work. Then as we started talking about what we wanted out of an RV it became clear a class B Van Camper was ideal. Sharon could drive it, it was better on gas mileage (and could be later converted to a diesel engine when we had the money), it was self contained. We could drive it to the beach here and park in any of the lots, we could park it anywhere which eliminated the need for a tow vehicle (which is a huge hassle and expense). We can always tow a larger trailer for extended stays. This vehicle could tackle hills and backroads with ease. I feel confident to work on it when need be. I will always look at those large coaches with envy but for us and our budget, the van is the perfect option. BTW, I started to check out your site, and find it FULL of useful information and would like to thank you putting it all online! Safe Travels!
